image Vancouver, originally a coastal Indian settlement dating back as far as 500 B.C., was formerly called the Town of Granville and founded as a sawmill settlement in the 1870's. It was incorporated and renamed the city of Vancouver in 1886 after Captain James Vancouver who had charted these waters almost 100 years prior. The Greater Vancouver Regional District today boasts a population of about
2.1 million people

Vancouver is once again rated the best place to live in the world
